What are fibre optics, and what are their advantages?
Fibre optics are cables manufactured from glass fibre and plastics that make it possible to transmit data without interference using light waves at speeds of up to several Tb/s (terabits per second). Fibre optic lines are used to transmit internet data as well as TV and telephone signals.
There are 2 types of fibre optics:
- Single-mode fibre optics
- Dual-mode fibre optics - used as an internal network up to 2 km
The advantage of fibre optics is that they allow much faster data transfer than is the case with traditional connections. In addition, they guarantee very high download speeds, making the use of the Internet problem-free. Another advantage of fibre optics is that they rarely fail and show resistance to adverse weather conditions.
